Of the hundreds of entrepreneurs I have coached, a great number struggle to clearly define their Vision in a short phrase or two.
Of the hundreds of entrepreneurs I have coached, a great number struggle to clearly define their Vision in a short phrase or two. Yet distilling our thoughts down into clarity of Vision is vital to moving our business forward.
Just as the word says, “Vision” is about seeing the future. Our Vision is the picture of what we value for our business, and what life looks like once our business has “made it”. It is a destination we consciously choose.
Answer these questions—go ahead and write them down:
- In the next 5 years, what impact do I want my business to have on my community, my industry or the world?
- In 5 years, how will my business interact with customers and clients?
- What will the culture of my business look like, and how will that impact employees’ lives?
Let’s write these answers down even if we don’t know “how” to make it. There’s no judgment here! Then, distill your answers to these questions into your Vision statement—no more than two sentences (and ideally, five words or less).
If you are struggling with this, you’re not alone! Many of us ENs struggle to create a crisp Vision. This is where we can seek input from our Trusted Advisors. Collaboration with others can offer a mirror to see more clearly what is inside you.
